    A Community Icon

For decades, Burpengary Tavern has been more than just a place to grab a meal or a drink – it’s been one of the cornerstones of the whole northern Brisbane community. Since our founding back in the mid-70s, we’ve proudly welcomed generations of locals and visitors alike, building a reputation as one of the longest-lasting taverns in the region.

Rooted in decades of tradition and shaped by our place within the vibrant local community of Burpengary, the Burpo (or “Burps,” as many locals once called it back in the old days) still brings people together to this day. No matter whether you’re dropping in for a relaxing catch-up or are looking for a place to host a celebration with loved ones, our doors have always been open for good times, great company, and warm hospitality for all visitors.

    How it Began

In the mid-1970s, Burpengary was going through its transition from a quiet rural town in north Brisbane into a growing hub along the Bruce Highway. With more residents and travellers passing through than ever before, the need for local hospitality and entertainment soon became clear.

In 1976, the firm of Carbone & Associates first proposed the development of a licensed tavern on a 6,854m² site at the corner of Old Bay Road and the Bruce Highway. The idea initially faced objections, but the Caboolture Shire Council ultimately recognised its potential of how well it would serve the rapidly growing Burpengary community.

    How Far We've Come

By 1978–1979, the Burpengary Tavern officially completed construction.

Strategically positioned along the Bruce Highway and featuring a public bar, private lounge, drive-in bottle shop, and caretaker’s residence, the tavern immediately became a local hub that attracted both locals and visitors, which it still has remained over the years.

While Burpengary continues to grow, develop, and change, the Burpo has remained a beloved community fixture – a true testament to those who saw Burpengary’s potential all those years ago and who helped shape its future.
